Throwing Performance

VELO Program

Throwing is a complex skill. Baseball and softball players, football quarterbacks, and tennis players are unique, and require sport-specific evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment.

The Wisconsin Performance Institute’s Velocity Enhancement and Long-Term Optimization (VELO) Program is designed to analyze and correct throwing-related movement issues, resulting in greater velocity and improved accuracy. WPI is one of the few facilities in the Midwest with programs dedicated to improving throwing efficiency, performance, and rehabilitation.

About

How It Works

During a throwing motion analysis, we use Noraxon USA technology to identify movements that contribute to arm stress and decreased performance. After an in-depth evaluation, we’ll determine what tissue restrictions, weaknesses, or movement faults are decreasing your performance, and we’ll create an individualized program to correct faulty mechanics and tissue impairments.

The result? You’ll soon be back on the field feeling better, moving better, and performing better.

  • Relieve throwing-related arm pain
  • Speed return from injury or surgery
  • Maximize velocity
  • Improve skill and performance
  • Prevent injury

TESTIMONIAL

Understanding the why
I have been working with Carter each off-season since 2020. The most beneficial aspect of training with him is the understanding of WHY we do the exercises we do. The programs he’s written for me have helped me increase strength and mobility, which in turn have kept me healthy and performing at a high level. Carter has a reason for including specific exercises and helps me understand how each exercise will translate to the pitching mound. He not only tells you how, he tells you WHY.

My shoulder pain is gone
My shoulder pain was so excruciating that it hurt to even get a bowl off of the shelf. However, after going to the WPI, my shoulder pain is gone. I learned that I need to activate my hips before my shoulder when throwing and that my peck was super tight, making my pain worse. With Carter’s help, we worked on both areas and throwing became easier and pain-free. I highly recommend working with Carter—12/10 guy.

I don't have arm pains anymore
When I got to our first assessment Carter said right away that I was stiff and tight. We worked on my flexibility. I also didn't know how to use the lower half of my body in comparison to my upper half. We did certain drills to allow me to use my legs first, then hips, then upper half to create a spiral effect. He's helped me get to that point and keep my arm healthy which is a big deal because I had arm pains in the past. Now because I use my body properly, I don't have those arm pains anymore.
